"I've been doing a lot of running actually and mixing in a little weight lifting," Davidson said. "I've just been trying to make sure I keep my speed up right now, because my size isn't a big thing."

Davidson, a Long Beach (Calif.) Poly product, elected not to participate in a winter or spring sport. Upon his arrival, the UNC coaching staff isn't concerned with him adding weight to his 6-foot-2, 218-pound frame.

"The only thing they're concerned with is they would like to see my speed stay how it is – or get better," Davidson said. "That's why I've been careful with the weight lifting."

Davidson, who played his senior football season at 215 pounds, hopes to arrive at UNC at 220 pounds, but gain speed. Since the conclusion of his football season, he has added three pounds and maintained his speed.

This fall, Davidson, who was recruited as a strong safety, expects to get in the safety rotation.

"I've heard there's a very good possibility of me seeing the field [as a true freshman]," Davidson said. "I'm just going along with that and when I get out there I'll just work hard and see what happens."

Davidson, who is completely qualified, will arrive on campus June 15.

During his most recent discussion with Charlie Williams, his primary recruiter, Davidson said he discussed wearing the No. 6 jersey. Davidson originally wanted to continue to wear his high school number, 25, but was informed that it was taken on defense.
