Sowell Clarifies Commitment Status

After being caught by surprise by a recent scholarship offer from Miami, North Carolina verbal commitment Taylor Sowell has been the subject of a fair share of discussion and rumors. After helping lead his team to a 7-on-7 title Saturday in Charlotte, he talked to ...

"It doesn't affect [my commitment] at all," Sowell said of the Miami offer. "To me, I just see it as an accomplishment for me to be noticed by Miami. But I still like North Carolina as a program and I'm going to still stay committed."

In mid-February, Sowell, a 6-foot, 175-pound cornerback from Roebuck (S.C.) Dorman, verbally committed to UNC over scholarship offers from Georgia Tech and West Virginia.

Sowell added he's "not really" going to consider Miami.

"You can't help it to think [about the offer]," Sowell said. "I think any human would think ‘You know I got an offer from Miami – that's big.' I'm going to look at them just because they have offered me, but I don't think it's going to affect it too much."

However, Sowell said he hasn't completely ruled out the possibility of visiting schools outside of UNC.

"I'm not considering too many visits," Sowell said. "Me and my dad have been talking here and there [about visits]. But not yet I don't have any visits except North Carolina."

Sowell said he will attend UNC's camp on Monday.

Sowell noted that he is strongly considering graduating from high school in December and enrolling in college in January.
