"Matt Doherty Live!" Moves to New Site

Two weeks ago, just four days before he was to do his first radio call-in show of the new season, Matt Doherty didn't have a broadcast site. The downtown Chapel Hill restaurant which the head basketball coach had used the past two years wasn't available. It had closed its doors. So Gary Sobba, Jeff Huffman and others at Tar Heel Sports Marketing quickly went to work and found a new location at University Mall.

Last week's show, broadcast Monday night because of the team's travel to the Pre-season NIT and the Thanksgiving holiday, originated from the network studio in the Smith Center, but Thursday, between 7-8:00 p.m., Coach Doherty and Woody Durham will be in the mall's centre court.

This will be a temporary site until the new Spice Street Restaurant opens at University Mall in late December or early January. The permanent location, owned by Giorgio Bakatsias, who has been a visionary in the area restuarant business for for than 15 years with George's Garage, Parizaades and Vin Rouge, will have a spice, tea and olive market along with a bar and lounge plus a market grille restaurant. This will definitely be a revolutionary concept in upscale dining entertainment.

So "Matt Doherty Live" has moved, but only to a new point of origination. It's still at the same spot on your dial with your local Tar Heel Sports Network affiliate or available via the internet at tarheelblue.com. You can still call and talk to Coach Doherty at 1-866-TAR HEEL.

"I enjoy doing the show," Doherty said, "and, talking with Carolina fans over the telephone and those who join us in person. University Mall will be easy to find, and there will be plenty of parking. I hope we'll have a big crowd Thursday night!"

Coach, you can count on it.
