Barnes Discusses UNC Offer

As first reported earlier this week, Harrison Barnes scored a scholarship offer from North Carolina. The nation's top rated wing said Roy Williams recently gave him the news.

"Coach Williams had told me during one of our phone conversations that I would have an offer to come play for North Carolina," Barnes said. "I like to keep our conversations private, but generally speaking they liked my game and they would like to see me in a Tar Heel uniform."

Barnes also has offers from a host of other high major programs, including Duke, Florida, Iowa, Iowa State, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, LSU, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, UCLA and USC.

"It's an honor to have a scholarship from an elite program like UNC," Barnes said. "They are very good year in and year out and it's just a big honor to know that I could go play for him."

According to Barnes, the No. 3 prospect overall in the 2010 class according to, the Heels staff has evaluated him a handful of times since the summer.

"They started showing interest in me during the summer at the LeBron James camp," Barnes said. "Coach Williams came up to see me in late September and Coach Robinson was up two weeks earlier for an open gym."

Barnes recently took a pair of unofficial visits. He went to Duke this past weekend and Kansas the weekend before. He said he'll likely take a break from visits until after his high school season.
