Puff, Carver dominate to win state title

Behind a dominating performance from the "Puff" Thomas-led line, Winston-Salem Carver routed Fike 34-0 to win the 3A state championship Saturday at Carter-Finley Stadium.

Isaiah Thomas (aka "Puff"), was named the defensive MVP.

Fike rushed 42 times for a net of 69 yards. On the other side of the ball, Carver rushed 38 times for 310 yards. And Thomas and his line played a major role in both stats.

The UNC target had four tackles and two fumble recoveries. One of recoveries came on a spectacular defensive effort, as Fike tried to run a reverse. Carver was all over the second handoff, stripped the ball and Thomas lunged for it.

"I knew about his size and strength but it was his mobility and speed that were so surprising," said IC's Michelle Hillison postgame. "On one play, he was nearly 12 yards downfield, blocking way out in front of the running back. He was very agile."
