"I'm still open at the moment," McKie said. "I just got an offer from Georgia Tech about five days ago. All of the schools recruiting me have offered except UNC and Florida."
At the beginning of January, rumors circulated that McKie was on the verge of a decision. Turns out it wasn't just a rumor.
"I was ready to decide," McKie admitted. "I just wanted to get it over with. But that was only one day. The next day I decided I wanted to wait it out until after the season because this isn't a decision you rush into."
"I wanted to wait until after the season to see where everything falls," he continued. "After the season I'm going to narrow my list down to four or five and then decide in early June or at the beginning of AAU season."
With North Carolina and Florida still having not offered, McKie said that he looks at the two schools a little differently, but was quick to point out that they are both still recruiting him.
"At this point you look at them, but this is a situation where both of those schools do things a little differently," McKie said. "But as time goes on and you're ready to make a decision and they still haven't offered you kind of wonder.
"Those two I'm a little weary on, but everybody else is really saying that they really want me and throwing me a scholarship, so I look at them more than the other two."
According to McKie, the Tar Heels have actually picked up their interest in January, compared to last month. UNC sent an assistant to a recent game and he spoke to a coach on the phone earlier in the month.
"The last time I talked to them was the day before the UNC/UVa game," McKie said. "So that was early January. Coach [Joe] Holladay came up to see me play in early January, too. They are picking up their interest."
Prior to the end of December, McKie couldn't decide if the Heels were still recruiting him.
"They called me on Christmas Eve and before that I thought they were done recruiting me," he said. "Until then I didn't know. With UNC their recruitment has been up and down. I don't really have a feel for them. I just don't know."
"With UNC they keep saying that I'm still a priority and they want to build a relationship before they make an offer. They say they want to get to know the prospect and his parents before they throw an offer because they don't throw an offer out to everybody."
McKie will continue to play with the Boo Williams squad this spring and summer and, as mentioned, has targeted the summer as the end point to his recruitment.
"I want my senior year to be as stress free as possible," he said. "I don't want to go through all of this again, so I'll probably decide in the summer time."
