Blue Excited to Sign Again

CHATHAM, Va. --- With much more conviction this time around, A.J. Blue signed his National Letter-of-Intent with North Carolina on Wednesday for the second year in a row.

"I feel like I'm well on my way to being there," Blue said. "Last year it was a little iffy if I was going to be there after Signing Day or not. But now, I'm for sure I'm going to be there."

A year ago Blue signed with UNC out of Dallas (N.C.) North Gaston High School. When he failed to qualify, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound athlete prepped at Hargrave Military Academy.

"It feels good again [to sign with UNC]," Blue said. "It feels just as good or maybe even better because of the confidence."

Following the the plan that was laid out for him, Blue is expected to be fully qualified when he leaves Hargrave Military Academy in May.

"Everything is looking good," Blue said of his academics. "I made the Dean's List. A couple more points on my SAT and my GPA and I'll be set. I'll be there."

Last night, Blue spoke with Kenny Browning, his primary recruiter.

"We talked about me being excited and how excited they are to get me there," Blue said. "He said they are looking at a couple different offenses for me."

Blue's position once he gets to UNC still hasn't been determined.

"They're going to use me all around the offense," Blue said. "Coach [Butch] Davis has talked about installing the ‘Wildcat,' installing a couple of offenses that involve me running, halfback passes – all that kind of stuff. Some of the stuff we've been doing [at Hargrave], but a little flavor to it."

Despite spending the last six months at a nearly-isolated military academy, Blue has made sure to follow UNC's recruiting class.

"I think it's a great class," Blue said. "I don't think we've ever been this high – as far as rankings. I just feel good to be a part of a high ranking class."
