Senior Speeches

"It's kind of hard to put into words what my experience at Carolina has been like. It's been the best four years of my life, just because of everybody right there [pointing to the bench]. I'll start off with Coach Williams. When Coach was recruiting me, he said, 'Son, I'll never lie to you.' And that's something he's done for four years, and I really appreciate that. He never tells you what you want to hear. He always tells you what you need to hear...

"I want to thank everybody here -- it's been a great experience. Thank you."

"I want to start off by thanking the fans for allowing me to act like a fool on the sidelines. Because in short, if you guys didn't tolerate it, Coach wouldn't let me... I want to thank my teammates. You guys have gotten me through a lot of days and practices. I'm not sure I would have gotten through it without you guys... We're brothers... I remember when we were freshmen, staying in the tiny [inaudible] dorms. Me and Marcus [Ginyard] barely knew each other, trying to make some kind of talk. I didn't know what to say to him, he didn't know what to say to me. Just look over and say, 'You watch movies?' And even though you're not coming out with us, Marcus, we still love you, man. You're a senior."

"I wish we could play Duke every time, because I can make a shot against them... I don't have a girlfriend or a fiancee to thank right now, so I'm going to go with the most important in my life - my mother. My mom doesn't get enough credit. When I was in high school, it was always my dad and I -- he's a coach, I was his son, and my mom never got any credit. But she's my coach off the court... I just want to thank the fans for sticking with me, sticking with us. We lost two games and I think a lot of Carolina nation was ready to jump off a building and call it a season, but thanks so much for sticking with us. It's been a great ride, my four years here, but it's not over yet. Hopefully we've got about nine games left. Thank you."

"Everybody's feeling good right now. Big win, ACC champs... I want to thank my family -- my mom, my dad and my sister. I love you with all of my heart. You've been behind me the whole time I've been here, and I really appreciate that. I also want to thank my teammates. I love you all, man. You putting up with me, slapping me and beating me up... It made me tougher. I'm a man now because of you... I want to thank all of the fans. You make us better. We really appreciate it."

"I might be talking fast, because I feel like Forrest Gump at the White House -- I really have to go to the bathroom. So I had a lot of dreams when I was little kid. I dreamed really big, but I never thought that I'd be standing here. Because I didn't think it would take me four years to make it to the NBA. I really didn't... Thanks to all of you fans for staying. It really means a lot to all of us. You really make Carolina basketball what it is... Coach Haase didn't want this to be a thank-a-thon, so that's why I'm going to thank him twice."

"I want to thank the fans, especially the ones that stick around and watch me, Patrick and Jack get into the game. It means a lot... I feel like I wouldn't be standing here today if it wasn't for Coach Haase and Coach McGrath. They gave me the opportunity to play JV ball here at North Carolina. I want to thank Coach Williams for keeping that program going. It's a great program and a great opportunity for students like myself to get a chance to wear the Carolina uniform and live the Carolina dream."

"First of all, I want to thank the Lord for letting me be here. I feel really blessed... Back in Mrs. Rogers' 5th-grade elementary school class, we had an assignment and it was to write down our dreams in life and our desires. The first thing that I wrote down was that I wanted to play basketball for the University of North Carolina. Coach, I can't thank you enough for allowing me to fulfill that dream."
