Fla. Linebacker Commits to Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, NC--Inside Carolina has learned that University of North Carolina head coach John Bunting has recieved a verbal commitment from Wharton High School (Tampa, FL) linebacker Larry Edwards.

The UNC coaching staff was expecting a decision from Florida linebacker Larry Edwards sometime after this weekend's visit to Chapel Hill. Edwards apparently could not wait that long--which didn't bother UNC coach John Bunting.

Edwards was one of a group of verbal commitments and recruits that spent time in Chapel Hill over the weekend. The Tar Heel coaches had targeted him as one of their top linebacker prospects and really made a strong pitch for his services. In the end, it looks like it worked--the Tar Heels received their 15th verbal commitment.

As a senior at Tampa-Wharton (Fla.), Edwards (6-3, 215, 4.55) came up one game short in his quest for astate championship.

He took his official visit to LSU in October. Edwards chose UNC over LSU, the other school that he listed as his top two, heading into his visit to UNC.

Stay tuned to Inside Carolina for more information on the 15th '03 verbal football commitment as it becomes available.
