Draft Q&A: Bryan Mitchell

North Carolina signee Bryan Mitchell was drafted by the New York Yankees on Wednesday in the 16th round. InsideCarolina.com caught up with the Reidsville (N.C.) Rockingham County ace later that evening for an interview ...

What was your initial reaction to getting drafted today?

"Relieved - that was the biggest thing. The suspense of waiting all day to find out … once I did I felt better about it."

How was the waiting process?

"It was hard because you always hear about what round you might be drafted in, then waiting and wondering. The suspense - it was so much better once I found out. I was relieved."

What'd you do after you found out?

"I was probably on the phone for an hour after it telling everybody everything about it. Everybody is so proud about it. I feel good about the whole thing."

From the discussions among the scouts about your talent and tremendous senior season, do you think that your draft position was affected by your "signability"?

"I feel that is definitely why I fell so low."

Tell me about your impressions of being drafted by the New York Yankees...

"It is a first class organization all the way around. I feel like they have a good baseball program and everything."

Have you and your family and advisors had a chance to discuss your choice between playing at North Carolina and signing with the Yankees?

"I think I can not go wrong either way, you know, either way it is going to be a great decision."

Have you had the opportunity to talk with any of the coaches at North Carolina yet?

"Coach Forbes text messaged me earlier, but I have not been able to talk one-on-one with anyone yet. I have been watching them heading to the College World Series - I hope they win it all."
