Farmer, a 6-foot-2, 257-pound jumbo athlete from Tabor City (N.C.) South Columbus, has collected a dozen offers, with Alabama, Clemson, Penn State, Tennessee, Virginia and Virginia Tech highlighting the list.
Although UNC has been recruiting him as hard as any other school since the spring, Farmer was still surprised by the offer.
"My coach called me and told me to call Coach [John] Blake," Farmer said. "When I called him, he told me they had an offer for me. I was so excited about it."
Clemson, UNC, Penn State, Tennessee, and Virginia make up Farmer's favorites list. Clemson and UNC are tied for his leader spot.
"[Clemson and UNC] are the schools I've always liked growing up and they've been recruiting me pretty hard," Farmer said.
Farmer said his plan is to take his official visits during the season and then make a decision on Signing Day.
UNC is recruiting Farmer as an athlete with an emphasis on defensive line.
"It doesn't matter to me where I play," Farmer said. "I like to hit and catch."
During his junior season, Farmer caught 15 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns. He also registered 52 tackles and three sacks.
