The University of North Carolina men's basketball team, the reigning NCAA champions, begins its 100th season on Monday, November 9, against Florida International in the opening round of the 2K Sports Coaches vs. Cancer Classic.
The Tar Heels will play host to 18 regular-season games plus one exhibition (on Nov. 6 against Belmont Abbey).
The season opener against FIU is one of four games the Tar Heels will play in the 2K Sports Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. UNC also plays host to North Carolina Central University on November 11, and travels to New York's Madison Square Garden for a pair of games on November 19-20. The Tar Heels meet Ohio State in the semifinals on November 19 and will face either California or Syracuse on the 20th.
Carolina and Michigan State meet in Chapel Hill on December 1 for the 11th annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Tar Heels beat the Spartans twice in Detroit last year, once in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and in April in the NCAA Tournament championship game.
The two winningest programs in college basketball Carolina and Kentucky meet for the ninth consecutive year when the Tar Heels travel to Lexington, Ky., on December 5. Carolina has won each of the last five meetings against the Wildcats and leads the series, 21-10.
On Saturday, December 19, the Tar Heels play Texas in the first-ever basketball game in the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
UNC begins ACC play on January 10 against Virginia Tech. The Hokies are one of five ACC opponents whom the Tar Heels face twice. That list also includes Duke, Georgia Tech, NC State and Wake Forest.
Carolina plays Florida State, Miami and Virginia at the Smith Center and travels to Boston College, Clemson and Maryland.
