"All of the tournaments I was at they had coaches at all of my games," Cook said. "I've talked to Coach [C.B.] McGrath some and we email each other and stuff like that. I've got Kendall Marshall and P.J. [Hairston] in my ear. So they are recruiting me hard."
"Coach McGrath said that he's going to put coach [Roy] Williams on the phone with me and that he's going to be coming to DeMatha sometime this fall," the Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha standout added.
Although the Heels have yet to offer Cook, who does hold offers from Ohio State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Kansas State and Maryland, he does feel like they are beginning to target him.
"I feel like after they saw me play and the way I performed that they are starting to make me a priority," Cook said.
Although he's yet to visit North Carolina, Cook said he already has a good feel for the program and grew up watching the Heels.
"I kind of grew up a Carolina fan because of Michael Jordan," Cook said. "It's just an honor to be recruited by a school as big as Carolina and it's an honor to be in their mind."
Beginning in September, Cook is planning to take a few unofficial visits. He's scheduled a trip to Ohio State for the weekend of Sept. 12, but he's also planning to visit North Carolina, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
"My mom and I haven't set most of the dates," Cook said. "We just know those are the schools that we are going to visit."
To go with UNC and the schools that have offered, Cook is also hearing from Duke, Wake Forest, Villanova, Virginia, Kentucky, Clemson, Florida State, Georgetown, Indiana, Baylor, Notre Dame, South Florida, Marquette, UCLA and Arizona.
