Lipford, a 6-foot-3, 201-pound athlete from Lenoir (N.C.) Hibriten, verbally committed to Duke nearly 11 months ago.
"Things are pretty good [with my commitment to Duke]," Lipford said. "But I'm starting to get more interest towards Carolina just because they used to be my favorite school, what they are doing with the program there as well – they're on the rise – and it would be something that I'd be interested in being a part of. So, I want to make sure I look into it real well."
Lipford considers his commitment to Duke "fairly solid" and says he's "back-and-forth" with Duke and UNC. He's also considering Clemson, South Carolina, and Virginia.
"I'd probably say Carolina would have the best chance of anybody to make me change my mind," Lipford said.
Lipford, who would like to have his collegiate decision finalized by January, says he'll probably take all five of his official visits.
All of the aforementioned schools are recruiting Lipford as an outside linebacker/safety. He has started at both wide receiver and safety for Hibriten since midway through his freshman season.
Roughly three weeks ago, UNC extended Lipford a scholarship offer.
"They had been telling me for probably two or three months that whenever I could get down there, they'd give me the scholarship, because they wanted to see me in person," Lipford said. "They finally just sent it in the mail, because I couldn't really find any time to get down there.
"At first [the UNC offer] really didn't do anything, because I was like ‘They came in pretty late' and I was set on Duke," Lipford said. "But the more I thought on it, I just didn't want to make sure I overlooked it.
Saturday marked Lipford's first visit to UNC as a recruit. He visited two years ago as a guest of then teammate Quin Smith.
"[Saturday's UNC visit] was really nice," Lipford said. "I liked it a lot.
"Being there watching the game, I really liked the way the defense was moving. It seemed like they developed a lot."
Outside of the game, Lipford walked Franklin Street and toured the facilities.
"I liked how considering where they were the last time I had been there they've changed a lot of things around," Lipford said.
After leaving Chapel Hill on Saturday afternoon, Lipford headed to Winston-Salem where he attended the Wake Forest-Elon game. A couple weeks ago, he attended the Richmond upset of Duke in Durham.
Lipford doesn't have any future visits scheduled. However, he said he would like to attend the South Carolina-Florida game in Columbia in November, as well as games at Duke and Clemson.
