UNC-WF: Game Notes

CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina couldn't have played with more intensity and drive on Sunday night, and also couldn't stop Wake Forest's Josh Howard, who scored 32 points in a 79-75 victory over the Tar Heels before a sellout crowd of 21,750 at the Dean E. Smith Center.

Here is a look at some of the game notes from UNC's ninth loss (fourth in a row) in 20 games, and its fifth defeat in seven Atlantic Coast Conference contests.

***With the loss, the Tar Heels drop to 146-60 all time against the Demon Deacons.

***UNC has now lost consecutive home games to Wake, and is 15-3 at the Dean Smith Center against the Deacs. Overall at home, Carolina is 68-17.

***UNC has won more games against Wake than any other opponent.

***Win the loss, UNC has now lost to the Deacons three consecutive times for the first time since the 1969-70 season, when Wake won both meetings and then won the first clash of the 1970-71 campaign.

***Wake Forest coach Skip Prosser coached UNC assistant coach Doug Wojcik at Central Catholic High School in Wheeling, WVA.

***With the loss, Carolina is now 19-29 over its last two seasons and 24-34 dating back to Feb. 18, 2001, the day it lost at Clemson.

***Carolina and Wake first met in the 1910-11 season.

***After scoring in double figures just three times in UNC's first nine games, Raymond Felton has done so in 11 Consecutive contests.

***Melvin Scott last six games (4-28 in last five, 2-18 from 3-point range)

***Scott played a season-low five minutes.

***With 22 points, Jawad Williams has now scored at least 20 points in consecutive games for the first time in his UNC career.

***This was the first game in which Felton did not commit a turnover.

***Wake outrebunded the Heels 47-30 overall and had 16 offensive rebounds. UNC had 16 defensive boards on the night.

***UNC forced 21 turnovers yet had just sox fast break points on the night.

***UNC is one win away from its 500th regular season ACC victory. Next in line heading into today's games: Duke (443), Maryland (353), N.C. State (350), Wake Forest (331), Virginia (284), Clemson (231), Georgia Tech* (154), and FSU^ (71). South Carolina won 101 league games from 1953-54 through 1970-71. *Tech began playing in the 1979-80 season. ^FSU began playing in the 1991-92 campaign.
