Hubert Discusses UNC Visit

Desmond Hubert had some time off school a few weeks ago, so the 6-foot-8, 195-pound center took a number of unofficial visits. Among the schools the 2011 prospect visited was North Carolina.

The New Egypt (N.J.) High standout watched practice, toured campus and met Roy Williams while on the Chapel Hill campus.

"I liked it," Hubert said about his visit. "It was nice. Coach Williams was a real cool guy. I got to meet the players and I watched them practice. It was a nice trip. The facilities and the locker room and everything were nice."

Williams and his staff watched Hubert with the Playaz Basketball Club during the summer and began recruiting him after the July evaluation period.

"It really just started to pick up I guess in the summer," Hubert said. "Towards the end of the AAU season in July and August is when they started to recruit me. Sometimes I talk to their assistant coach."

"They said that they are interested in me and that they'd be up to see some of my games this year," he added.

Among the other schools that Hubert is getting interest from are Wake Forest, Duke, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, Penn State, Texas, Xavier and Virginia Tech. Only Pittsburgh and Penn State have offered at this point.

"It really picked up this year right in the beginning of AAU season," Hubert said about his recruitment. "For me I think it was because I started playing a lot better."

"Last year I didn't get to play that much because I got hurt, but this year I got to play and I was healthy during the high school and AAU season and I really took advantage of that," he added.

During his same trip to North Carolina, Hubert also visited Wake Forest, Duke and North Carolina State. He's been to Pittsburgh and Penn State as well.
