Five No Longer with FB Team

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --- Hawatha Bell, Vince Jacobs, Rashad Mason, Randy White, Jamal Womble and are no longer part of North Carolina's football team, a UNC official confirmed Monday morning.

Bell, a rising sophomore linebacker from Charlotte, was dismissed from the team for violating team rules. Bell was also sent home from the Meineke Car Care Bowl after, sources say, significantly breaking curfew.

As a freshman this past season, Bell saw limited action but did not accumulate any statistics. His UNC enrollment was delayed a semester after being involved in an altercation during his senior year of high school.

Jacobs, a rising fifth-year senior from Charlotte, N.C., who has seen limited action at tight end, defensive end and special teams throughout his career, will forgo his final year of eligibility.

Mason, a rising junior from Nashville, has also been dismissed from the team and will transfer. In November, the 6-foot-5, 225-pounder was indefinitely suspended for violating team rules.

Mason red-shirted in 2007 and saw action in one game in 2008 and did not record a reception. This past season he practiced at both wide receiver and tight end, but never saw the field.

Womble, a rising sophomore tailback from Sierra Vista, Ariz., will also transfer. Womble indicated on the social networking site Facebook that poor grades led to his being ineligible in the spring and that he would transfer to a junior college to boost his grades with hopes of returning to North Carolina for the spring 2011 semester.

After red-shirting in 2008, Womble saw action in three games this past season before fracturing his wrist against Georgia Southern. In those three games, he rushed six times for 41 yards.

White, a rising sophomore from Bristol, Va., has quit the football team. After red-shirting in 2008, he competed for time at deep snapper and tight end but didn't see the field in 2009.
