Four Enrolled, One Waiting

According to sources close to the situation, four members of the 2010 recruiting class arrived and enrolled at North Carolina over the weekend.

D.J. Bunn, Sean Fitzpatrick, James Hurst, and T.J. Leifheit. Meanwhile, a fifth, Alex Smith, is still awaiting clearance to enroll early.

Shortly after verbally committing to UNC in late November, Smith decided to enroll this spring. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound tight end from West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West says he has met all requirements. He's just waiting to hear back from the NCAA Clearinghouse.

"I'm still waiting," Smith said Monday night. "I have everything sent in, now I'm just waiting on them."

Bunn, a 5-foot-11, 200-pound defensive back, signed with UNC last February out of Smithfield (N.C.) Smithfield-Selma High. However, he failed to qualify and thus spent the fall at Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military Academy, where he played both safety and cornerback.

Fitzpatrick, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound tight end from Pittsford (N.Y.), switched his verbal commitment from Maryland to UNC in mid-August.

Hurst, a 6-foot-6, 284-pound offensive tackle from Plainfield (Ind.), became the first 2010 recruit to commit to UNC back in April. He remains the most highly regarded – a five-star prospect and the third ranked offensive tackle in the nation by Scout.com.

After visiting 20-plus schools, Leifheit verbally committed to UNC during his official visit in October. The 6-foot-7, 300-pound offensive tackle from Wilmington (N.C.) Hoggard is a four-star prospect who collected scholarship offers from throughout the nation.

All four enrollees – plus Smith, if he eventually does enroll – will participate in spring practice.
