Martin Takes Final Visit

Kareem Martin took the final official visit of his recruitment -- to Chapel Hill -- over the weekend.

"It went well," Martin said. "I had a good time.

"Now, I can focus on making a decision now that I've looked at all the schools."

In addition to UNC, Martin has officially visited Duke, Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech. However, the 6-foot-6, 229-pound defensive end from Roanoke Rapids (N.C.) has narrowed his focus to the Blue Devils, Hokies, and Tar Heels.

"Now I'm just going to weigh everything out and just [find] whatever school I felt right at," Martin said.

Martin says "in his head" he's leaning towards a school and could hold a press conference sometime this week.

"[The determining factor is] how I felt when I was on the campus of each school," Martin said. "You can get a degree at all those schools – it's all in what you do with it. All those schools have pretty good football or are on the rise to get there. It really just comes down to how you like the campus and how you like the environment of the school."

Martin had a basketball game Friday night. Thus, he and his parents didn't arrive in Chapel Hill until 8 a.m. Saturday morning.

After having breakfast with the coaching staff and fellow official visitors, Martin toured the campus, met with the academic support, and attended the UNC-Georgia Tech basketball game Saturday.

Martin has visited UNC several times in the past. This weekend's official visit, though, marked his first opportunity to spent time with the players.

"[Spending extended time with the players] was a big thing," Martin said. "I saw that all of them were pretty close. They like being around each other and they seem like they have a good time."

Robert Quinn hosted Martin during the visit. But Martin spent just as much time with most of UNC's defensive players.

"Robert is real cool," Martin said. "He didn't put any pressure on me. He was letting me know about Carolina – what it had to offer."

On Sunday, Martin met individually with John Blake, UNC's defensive line coach, Kenny Browning, Martin's primary recruiter, and Butch Davis.

"Coach Blake and I were breaking down film," Martin said. "He was just telling me what they do and what he'd liked to do with me. We were just looking at the good players that he's had.

"Coach Browning, we just talked about Carolina and the same thing with Coach Davis."
