Wilkins Switches Back to UNC

After officially visiting North Carolina over the weekend, Reggie Wilkins has switched his verbal commitment back to the Tar Heels.

"I'll be signing with Carolina," Wilkins said Monday afternoon. "That's where I'm committed. I told [the UNC coaches] I was coming and I de-committed [from NC State]."

Initially, Wilkins, a 5-foot-9, 165-pound athlete from Shelby (N.C.) Crest, verbally committed to UNC in early September. However, he switched his pledge to NC State shortly after attending the UNC-NC State game in Raleigh.

"I like what Carolina has to offer, how they will use me, and how I can get a good education there," Wilkins said.

Wilkins' recruitment may not be completely over just yet.

"I was supposed to be going to Duke [this weekend for an official visit], but I'm not 100-percent sure that I'm still going to go," Wilkins said.

Regardless, Wilkins says he plans to sign with UNC on Signing Day.

Wilkins has made countless visits to UNC. This weekend's official visit, though, provided him his first real opportunity to spend time with the players.

"We hung out and went to a few players' houses – that's about it," Wilkins said. "It was fun getting to meet all the players. I have a good bond with everybody."

Rising senior running back Johnnie White was Wilkins' player-host throughout the weekend.

Wilkins' also spent a lot of time with UNC's entire coaching staff.

Before leaving Chapel Hill Sunday afternoon, Wilkins met with Butch Davis.

"[He discussed] the positions I'll be playing and how I can get a good education," Wilkins said.

UNC is recruiting Wilkins as a wide receiver and expects him to also compete for a spot as a returner.
