Smith Wavers, Decommits

Alex Smith informed InsideCarolina.com on Tuesday morning that he has decided to make an announcement on Wednesday on where he will sign. According to IC sources, he won't be signing with UNC.

This announcement will be a part of a Signing Day Ceremony at West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West High School.

Smith, a 6-foot-5, 235-pound tight end, will choose between staying with his North Carolina verbal commitment or opting for Kentucky.

IC sources confirmed that Smith is definitely wavering on his verbal commitment to UNC and is expected to pick Kentucky.

"He has family [in Kentucky] and it's closer to home," the source said.

Originally, Smith verbally committed to Cincinnati in February, but de-committed five months later.

After taking official visits to UNC and Wisconsin, Smith verbally committed to the Tar Heels just before Thanksgiving.

Shortly after committing to the Tar Heels, Smith attempted to enroll for the spring semester at UNC. However, he fell a half credit short of qualifying.
