May continues to improve

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- University of North Carolina men's basketball freshman Sean May continues to show improvement, but is not cleared to practice or play, says UNC Director of Sports Medicine Dr. Tim Taft.

"Sean's x-rays today showed continued healing at the fracture site, so we will increase his rate of conditioning and allow him to participate in more non-contact drills," says Taft. "He will be re-evaluated after Tuesday's game against NC State."

May broke the fifth metatarsal in his left foot early in the second half of the Dec. 27 game against Iona in Madison Square Garden. The Bloomington, Ind., native had surgery on Dec. 30. He originally suffered a stress reaction in his left foot when he stepped on a teammate's foot in practice in the second week of December.

May was averaging 12.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

The Tar Heels play Saturday at 2 p.m. at the University of Maryland and play host to NC State on Tuesday, February 25.
