UNC-Maryland: Game Notes

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The North Carolina Tar Heels were outscored 49-16 over the final 16 minutes of Saturday's game at Maryland, and in the process were blown out by the Terrapins, 96-56, before an announced sellout crowd of 17,200 at the Comcast Center.

Here is a look at some of the notes from UNC's 12th loss in 26 games and eighth loss in 12 Atlantic Coast Conference defeats.

***With the loss Carolina=s record against Maryland drops to 107-52.

***This was UNC's fourth consecutive loss to the Terrapins. They lost last season 92-77 in Chapel Hill and 112-79 in College Park. The 112 points was the most ever allowed by a UNC team. And Carolina fell at home to the defending national champs 81-66.

***Carolina is now 43-32 in games played in College Park. The Tar Heels were 29-18 against the Terrapins at Cole Field House, which closed its doors after last season.

***Because of traffic, Carolina did not arrive at the Comcast Center until 1:32 p.m., 29 minutes before tip off. The Tar Heels stayed at The Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C., and were on the bus for at least an hour and a half. The team got off the bus in uniform and sweats and headed directly to the locker room. Carolina took the floor to warm up with 22 minutes left on the clock, that counts down to player introductions. Note: Maryland players were warming up an hour before tipoff.

***UNC has lost at Maryland the last two years by a combined 77 points. (apologize for the previous typo - AJ)

***Maryland was 7-8 from 3-point range in the first half and finished 10-17 for the game.

***The Terrapins shot 17-26 overall from the field in the first and 40-69 for the game.

***Carolina had 14 assists and 20 turnovers.

***Maryland outscored Carolina 49-16 over the final 16 minutes of the game.

***Maryland guard John Gilcrest, who is listed as 6-foot-3 but is more like 6-foot-1, had 11 points and nine rebounds in just 14 minutes of action.

***Maryland missed just 29 shots and had 16 offensive rebounds.

***Jawad Williams led UNC with six assists to go against only one turnover.

***Seven blocked shots and 14 steals.
