UNC-NCSU: Game Notes

CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina's NCAA tournament hopes took a major hit on Tuesday night as the Tar Heels missed 12 of 19 free throw attempts and fell to rival N.C. State in overtime, 75-67, before a sellout crowd of 21,750 at the Dean Smith Center.

Here is a look at some notes from UNC's 13th loss in 27 games and ninth defeat in 13 Atlantic Coast Conference contests.

***With the victory Carolina dropped to 128-72 all-time versus N.C. State.

***The Tar Heels are now 62-22 at home against the Wolfpack.

***UNC lost to NCSU for the fourth consecutive time for the first time since the Heels lost eight in a row from 1972-75.

***UNC is now 12-5 against State in the Dean Dome.

***Matt Doherty fell to 2-4 versus State.

***This was the first overtime game between State and UNC Chapel Hill since the 1987-88 season.

***UNC had no offensive rebounds in the first half, and trailed overall on the glass, 19-12. State was credited with just two offensive boards in the first 20 minutes.

***State outrebounded UNC 43-28.

***UNC finished with only five offensive rebounds and a pitiful four second chance points.

***Raymond Felton was only 1-7 (all 3-pointers) from the floor in the first half, but finished the game 6-14 overall and 2-9 from beyond the arc.

***Felton also had no assists and three turnovers in the first half, but finished the game with 16 points, three assists and eight turnovers.

***The Tar Heels made just three of nine free throws in the first half, and only 4 of 10 in the second half and overtime combined.

***UNC was just 7-19 from the free throw line while NCSU was 22-22.

***UNC's only basket over the final 4:10 of regulation was a steal and slam by David Noel.

***The Tar Heels led 59-53 with 4:10 left and were outscored 22-8 the rest of the way, including overtime.

***UNC is 8-21 in AAC regular season games the last two years – 8-22 including last season's ACC tournament.

***Six of Carolina's eight ACC wins over the last two seasons have been against Florida State and Clemson. The other two were against Georgia Tech (last year) and Virginia (this season).

***In UNC's last two basketball seasons and last football season combined, the Tar Heels have just 25 victories and 42 losses.
