Mogridge hasn't brought up UNC's situation at running back. However, Blakely has done some investigating of his own.
"I was looking at their roster today and saw they have nine running backs," Blakely said. "But a few of them graduate [after the season]."
Besides Mogridge, Blakely speaks regularly with coaches from Clemson, Florida, and Mississippi.
Mogridge has yet to make an evaluation visit to Manatee High School. However, coaches from Auburn, Florida, and Tennessee have dropped by the school.
Nearly 40 schools have offered Blakely a scholarship, including Auburn, Central Florida, Clemson, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi, UNC, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, and Southern Cal.
Just before the football season, Blakely plans to establish a solid list of favorite schools.
"I'm looking for playing time," Blakely said. "I want to play as a freshman."
Blakely says UNC is very much in contention to make his favorites list.
"I just like the offense that they run," Blakely said. "From what I've seen from the plays, I feel like I can go right in and play."
Auburn has the best odds of earning a spot on Blakely's favorites list. After visiting the school recently, the Tigers have become Blakely's leader.
"When I went up there I spent four days up there," Blakely said. "I liked it. It was like a family thing."
In addition to Auburn, Blakely has visited Florida and South Carolina. He plans to return to Auburn very soon.
Blakely said he isn't sure of his timetable to make a verbal commitment.
