Despite having a UNC scholarship offer, Buie says he'll likely participate in UNC's camp.
UNC is one of 13 schools that have offered Buie, a 5-foot-10, 190-pound athlete from Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian. Included among the schools to have offered are Auburn, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Pittsburgh, Purdue, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
In addition to UNC, Buie plans to visit Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee this summer.
"You've got to get out to see the schools so you know exactly where you want to be," Buie said.
Buie hasn't made any visits yet, and thus lacks favorite schools.
"That's why I really wanted to get out this summer to see the schools so I can make a top five," Buie said.
During each recruiting trip, Buie will be asking himself several questions to help thoroughly evaluate each school.
"Is this somewhere that I really want to be? Do I have a chance of getting on the field? How do I interact with the players there?"
Most schools are recruiting Buie as a tailback. However, there are a few schools that believe his best fit is at defensive back.
"Auburn is recruiting me as an athlete," Buie said. "Michigan has offered me as a defensive back. Alabama wants me to come to their camp and work out as a defensive back."
Tailback is Buie's primary position at Trinity Christian, where he rushed for 1,901 yards and 22 touchdowns as a junior. However, he does see plenty of action at free safety. "It depends on the game we're playing in," Buie said. "If it's a big game and we need great defense, we'll put all our best players on the field [on defense] and I'm going to play defense that game. But if it's a game against a team that's not really a threat, I won't really play too much defense – I'll play just offense that game."
Buie doesn't have a position preference.
"I want to play anything that's going to get me on the field," Buie said. "If that's running back, it's running back. If it's defense, it's defense."
