Hairston Leaving Dudley

North Carolina commitment P.J. Hairston has decided to leave Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley High School and head elsewhere for his senior season.

"I just needed something better - not saying Dudley is bad or anything," Hairston said. "I just needed something more intense to get me ready for college."

Hairston confirmed that he will attend Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military Academy and has informed the UNC coaching staff of his decision.

"My mom talked to [UNC Assistant] Coach [Steve] Robinson and she told me he said that they would support any decision we made," Hairston said.

Hairston, who is ranked the No. 27 prospect in the Class of 2011, averaged 25.4 points and 8.1 rebounds last season at Dudley.

"At first, it will be a big shock but it's just something that the people are going to have to get used to," Hairston said of the expected local reaction.

Joining Hairston at Hargrave this fall will be two other in-state stars -- Marquis Rankin (Virginia Tech commitment) of Charlotte Vance and Dezmine Wells (Xavier commitment) of Raleigh Word of God.
