Five-Star CB Attends Tar Heel Camp

Five-star cornerback Doran Grant was among the approximately 60 recruits who represented the group Raw Talent during the first session of North Carolina's two-day camp on Friday.

"It went pretty good," the 5-11, 177-pound Grant said of the camp. "Raw Talent, we showed out. I did pretty well – I ran a pretty decent [40-yard dash] and then did pretty well in the one-on-ones. The coaches liked me a lot.

"I want to see a little bit more of North Carolina. I want to get back down there a couple more times, possibly for an official visit."

UNC was the first stop of Raw Talent's summer tour, which also includes California, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Southern Cal, UCLA, and West Virginia.

"I won't work out at every camp," said Grant, who hails from Akron (Ohio) St. Vincent-St. Mary. "Like Cincinnati, I've camped there twice, so I won't work out when we go there."

The tour provides Raw Talent's members an opportunity to showcase their abilities to schools throughout the nation. For Grant, though, who has nearly 30 scholarship offers, it helps him evaluate schools.

Previously, Grant listed Georgia Tech, Michigan, Michigan State, UNC, Ohio State, Southern Cal, and West Virginia as his favorite schools – all seven schools have offered. He says he no longer has a favorite schools list, but plans on naming his final five schools shortly following Raw Talent's summer tour.

Grant says UNC has a "pretty good chance" of making his cut to five schools.

"I'm more familiar with the coaches – Coach [Everett] Withers, Coach [Troy] Douglas, and Coach [Butch] Davis," Grant said. "I can see what they can do for me and what I can do for them."

While participating at UNC's camp, Grant received a great opportunity to work closely with Withers and Douglas.

"Coach Douglas, he's a guy who brings out the best in everyone," Grant said. "For example, we had a freshman on the [Raw Talent] tour with us and his backpedal was off. He was having fun with him as he showed him what to do. I don't know what he said to him, but next thing I know he was doing it perfectly."

After checking into his hotel following the camp session at UNC, Grant returned to Chapel Hill where he was given a tour of the campus.

"They have pretty good facilities," Grant said. "Football doesn't share any facilities with the other sports – it's all to themselves. The players lounge was nice. [They have a] good locker room. I like what they're doing with the stadium."

After touring the campus, Grant met with Davis in his office.

"He just asked me if I liked what I saw," Grant said. "I told him I liked a lot about North Carolina.

"Coach Butch Davis is an incredible coach who has coached in the NFL and college. He knows what he wants."
