UNC is guaranteed to lose one defensive lineman following the coming season – Marvin Austin to graduation. However, the Tar Heels could legitimately lose their entire first string group by way of the NFL draft.

In addition to the commitment this week from defensive tackle Shawn Underwood, UNC is looking to as many as four more D-linemen, with a target number of two ends and one or two more tackles.

Jadeveon Clowney is unsurprisingly the top defensive recruit on UNC's board. The coaching staff is also heavily recruiting fellow defensive ends Ray Drew, Branden Jackson, Florida pledge Jeoffrey Pagan, and Alabama pledge D.J. Pettway, and tackles Devonte Brown, Phillip Dukes, Brandon Fulse, Chris Jones, Kevin McReynolds, and Delvon Simmons.

End

Target Breakdown
Jadeveon Clowney

6'5" 235 lbs. 4.6 Rock Hill (S.C.) South Pointe
Clowney is the No. 1 recruit in the nation, and thus has scholarship offers from nearly every school in the nation. He hasn't narrowed his focus, but it's believed that Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, LSU, Miami, UNC, and South Carolina comprise the lead group. He plans to announce his collegiate decision at the Under Armour All-American Game in January. He visited UNC for the spring game.

Ray Drew

6'5" 243 lbs. 4.75 Thomasville (Ga.) County Central High School
Drew, who has received nearly 30 scholarship offers, won't narrow his list of schools under consideration until after the football season. He'll likely hold off on making a verbal commitment until Signing Day.
Branden Jackson

6'4" 220 lbs. 4.65 McKeesport (Pa.) High School
Illinois, Iowa, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, UNC, NC State, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Rutgers, Syracuse, Texas Tech, Virginia, and West Virginia have offered Jackson. He plans to narrow that list to five schools sometime soon. He's scheduled to visit UNC, along with teammate Delvon Simmons, for the "Beast of the Hill." later this month
Jeoffrey Pagan

6'3" 268 lbs. 4.66 Asheville (N.C.) High School
Pagan, who received nearly two dozen offers, verbally committed to Florida in early April, but considers himself a soft commitment. He has reportedly stated that Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Georgia Tech are the schools he will consider if he de-commits. However, he made his most recent visit to UNC less than a month ago.
D.J. Pettway

6'3" 255 lbs. 4.9 Pensacola (Fla.) Catholic High School
Pettway verbally committed to Alabama in mid-April. However, according to sources close to the situation, he is strongly considering taking a visit to UNC at some point.

Tackle

Target Breakdown
Devonte Brown

6'4" 279 lbs. 5.12 Fayetteville (N.C.) Britt High School
During the football season, Brown will name his final five schools. He has made two visits to UNC, including one less than a month ago with his mother. Due to transportation issues, the only other schools he has visited are Clemson and NC State. His teammate, Eric MacLain, verbally committed to Clemson in mid-April and has been recruiting him for the Tigers.
Phillip Dukes

6'3" 275 lbs. 5.00 Manning (S.C.) High School
Dukes, who likes to avoid media attention, is planning to narrow his list soon to a final five or six schools. He plans to take all five of his official visits and then announce his collegiate destination at the Under-Armour All-American Game. He camped at UNC, as well as Clemson and South Carolina.
Brandon Fulse

6'5" 245 lbs. 4.80 Fort Meade (Fla.) High School
Fulse has narrowed his focus to 15 schools -- Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, UNC, Oregon, South Florida, Tennessee, Texas Tech, and West Virginia. He plans to cut that list to ten very soon, and then to five before the end of the summer. Every aforementioned school -- except Georgia, Louisville, and UNC -- are recruiting him as a tight end, his preferred position.
Chris Jones

6'5" 260 lbs. 5.1 Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines
Jones, a self-described "diehard" Miami fan, is favoring Clemson, Florida International, Miami, UNC, and Texas Tech, with no leader. He plans to wait until Signing Day to announce his collegiate destination.
Kevin McReynolds

6'3" 255 lbs. 4.97 Washington (D.C.) St. John's College High School
Reynolds has a "soft" favorite list that includes Arkansas, Auburn, East Carolina, Illinois, Kansas State, Maryland, Mississippi State, UNC, Ohio State, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Texas Tech, and UCLA. He has already granted official visits to Arkansas, UNC, and Oregon. He unofficially visited UNC in late March.
Delvon Simmons

6'5" 265 lbs. 5.0 McKeesport (Pa.)
Simmons has received scholarship offers from Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, UNC, Rutgers, Syracuse and West Virginia. At one point, he named Michigan, UNC, and West Virginia his top three schools, but he has since backed off that statement and is considering all of his options. He's scheduled to visit UNC, along with teammate Branden Jackson, for the "Beast of the Hill." in July.
