|2010 Scholarship Roster|
UNC loses five defensive backs to graduation following this season, including all four projected starters. The goal is to fill those vacancies with three cornerbacks and two safeties, while placing a premium on size.
With Kameron Jackson's pledge, UNC's focus is on filling two additional cornerback spots.
The coaching staff would like to fill those two spots with Alex Dixon and Demetrious Nicholson, but are also interested in Dallas Crawford, Vincent Dallas, Doran Grant, Darius Jennings, Dondi Kirby, Chris Milton, and Tim Scott.
5'9" 180 lbs. 4.50 Fort Myers (Fla.) South High School
Crawford, who has collected nearly 30 scholarship offers, lists Miami, Michigan, Mississippi, UNC, and Tennessee as his favorite schools. He has mentioned the possibility of visiting UNC for the first time this summer.
6'1" 180 lbs. 4.50 Clearwater (Fla.) Countryside High School
Dixon, who has received nearly 20 scholarship offers, isn't ready to narrow his list of schools under consideration. But he says UNC and South Florida are locks to make that list when it's announced. He is scheduled to make his first visit to UNC on Thursday. After taking his official visits during the football season, he plans to make a verbal commitment.
5'10" 169 lbs. 4.37 Akron (Ohio) St. Vincent-St. Mary
Grant narrowed his focus to 11 schools -- Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, UNC, Ohio State, Penn State, USC, and UCLA. By the end of the summer, he plans to cut that list to five schools. He'll officially visit all five finalists and then make a verbal commitment. He camped at UNC in June.
5'11" 175 lbs. 4.50 Baltimore (Md.) Gilman School
Slowly, but surely, Jennings is working down his list of 30 scholarship offers. By the end of the summer, he hopes to have it down to 10 to 12 schools. He visited UNC in June. Besides cornerback, he's being recruited as a running back, wide receiver, and even quarterback.
6'1" 184 lbs. 4.70 Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway High School
Kirby is considering all two dozen schools that have offered him, but recently mentioned Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Louisville, Maryland, UNC, Ohio State, and USC as schools that stick out. His season-ending ACL tear will, at the very least, accelerate his recruitment. Now, he'll likely make a verbal commitment -- after taking his official visits -- in October.
6'0" 175 lbs. 4.50 Folkston (Ga.) Charlton County High School
Milton was scheduled to decide between UNC, Tennessee, and Wake Forest during a July 4 family reunion. However, he had to change his plans. He now figures to go into the football season with his recruitment. He camped at UNC this past June.
5'9" 149 lbs. 4.74 Virginia Beach (Va.) Bayside High School
Nicholson's last reported top four schools are (in order) UNC, Virginia Tech, Clemson, and West Virginia. He plans to make a verbal commitment before his senior football season kicks off. He has attempted to visit UNC several times in the past month and is still aiming to make that trip soon, but has made quite a few visits to the school in the past.
6'0" 180 lbs. 4.50 Stafford (Va.) Colonial Forge High School
Seven schools have offered Scott a scholarship -- East Carolina, Maryland, Miami (Ohio), UNC, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. He currently doesn't have any favorites. He attended one of UNC's Junior Days and hopes to make a return trip to the campus sometime soon.
