Conference Reprimands UNC, Duke

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Atlantic Coast Conference, after interviewing game administrators and conference officials, as well as viewing game footage from Sunday's Duke at North Carolina basketball game, announced that the Conference has issued an official reprimand to North Carolina head coach Matt Doherty, Duke assistant coach Chris Collins and Duke player Andre Buckner as a result of an incident that occurred in the second half of the contest.

"The incident in Sunday's game was unfortunate and not reflective of the two institutions and the ACC," said ACC Commissioner John D. Swofford. "While emotions can be at a high level during this time of the season, this kind of behavior is both regrettable and unacceptable. At the same time I want to commend both the game officials, who handled a difficult situation professionally, and the numerous players and coaches who helped keep this situation from escalating and allowing the game to be completed without further incident."

Joint Statement from Duke Director of Athletics Joe Alleva and North Carolina's Director of Athletics Dick Baddour:

"Sunday's Duke-North Carolina game was an outstanding competitive display between two great universities and basketball programs. Unfortunately, players and coaches from both universities were involved in an incident during the game that we all regret. Our two institutions, and the Atlantic Coast Conference, hold themselves to a high standard and the incident that occurred Sunday fell short of those standards. The ACC is the finest conference in the country and our goal is to represent it in a first class manner."
