Ridley on UNC Radar

CHICAGO --- North Carolina recently reached out to Cameron Ridley, who is a lesser known entity among the class of 2012's elite big men, but certainly a prospect that is set to rise in the national rankings.

"They called," Ridley said of the UNC staff. "They said when they watched me play that I played really good. They liked the fundamentals that I showed."

Roy Williams made an out-of-the-way trip to see Ridley play in Las Vegas last month.

Ridley said he spoke to assistant coach CB McGrath. During the conversation they discussed how they would begin the recruiting process and the topic of scholarship offers was addressed.

"They said they like to get to know their players first before they offer them a scholarship," Ridley said.

The 6-foot-10, 250-pound center currently holds scholarship offers from Utah, Oklahoma, Texas, Baylor, Texas A&M, Arizona and UNLV. To date, Texas is the only school he's visited.

When asked if North Carolina has discussed a possible visit, Ridley replied, "Not yet."

Although it's the beginning stages of their recruitment of him, Ridley, a standout at Richmond (Tex.) George Bush, said he's interested in the Tar Heels' program.

"I've been watching them over the years," said Ridley, who was born in Fayetteville, N.C. before moving to Texas as a young child. "But North Carolina is a school that I could go to."

Ridley is currently rated No. 20 overall by Scout, com and No. 6 at the center spot.
