Sturdivant, a weakside linebacker from Oakboro, N.C., was a 2009 first-team All-ACC performer after leading the team with 79 tackles and was second in tackles for loss (12.0). The 6-foot-2, 230-pounder is a 2010 Nagurski and Butkus Award candidate and is considered to be the top senior inside linebacker prospect in the 2011 NFL draft by Kiper.
Carter and Sturdivant were two of the three Tar Heels that did not travel with the team to Atlanta on Friday morning as their eligibility remained in question due to their involvement in the NCAA's investigation into academic misconduct at North Carolina. They are expected to arrive in Atlanta on Friday evening.
The third member of that group, Williams, will not be eligible to play against the Tigers as the NCAA has requested more information concerning his case.
