North Dakota State had one of their top quarterback targets on campus earlier this afternoon and ended up offering the Minnesota quarterback in Henry Van Dellen . The BisonReport spoke with Van Dellen to learn more.
"We got up there last night and just left this afternoon," Van Dellen said. "First thing today, I went on a tour around campus then an admissions meeting with a counselor before meeting with coach Klieman. That's when he told me I had a full ride offer. I then watched film with Coach Hedberg, the quarterbacks coach, and we talked about the offense and that was the end of it. Very good day in Fargo."
Seeing campus and the academic side of things was a big selling point for Van Dellen.
"I was surprised about how nice it is," Van Dellen told the Bison Report. "It was a very comfortable place and a lot renovation going on there means that it seems like they are improving something every year. It seems like a good fit school wise as they have a great business and engineering school, which are the two majors I'm most interested in. Being a football player would help me a lot to create relationships and potentially get a good job out of college."
Talking with the Bison coaches was also huge for the Minnesota quarterback.
"Coach Klieman is a great guy," Van Dellen explained. "He's really fun to sit down and talk to. He's a man with a plan and it's obvious when you talk to him. You can tell why they win the championships as often as they do because all the coaches there are great. I believe the offer was a culmination of hard work I've been putting in these past six months or so between the weight room, training and the large number of camps I went to. Coach Klieman said I had become number one on their board as they were really impressed with how I performed at their 3-day camp in June. After meeting with Klieman, we sat down with Coach Hedberg and it was awesome. I could feel the energy of what a film session would be like week to week if I were to attend NDSU."
Receiving a division one offer is a dream come true for Van Dellen.
"Ever since I was a little kid, I've wanted to play division one football," Van Dellen said to the BisonReport. "It's an honor to be wanted by a school like NDSU that has a good tradition of winning national championships. My mother and father met in North Dakota as they attended high school in Grand Forks, so they're familiar with the area. They're very happy that such a good school close to home has offered me a scholarship. My interest in NDSU is super high as I have very high opinions of their school after seeing things in-depth today. I had a great visit and the coaches have been great with me throughout the recruiting process. I'm going to take a little time to think about it because this is the next step in my life and I just got done with all my summer camps, so I'm going to take a couple weeks to regroup. I should have a decision in a few weeks."
