"It just felt right," new North Dakota State tight end commit Gabe Lloyd said about his reasoning to commit. "I prayed about it as well as with my team at my devotion this on Monday morning. The message was perfect for making a big, life-changing decision and it just felt right."
All of the NDSU coaches were thrilled to hear Lloyd's big news.
"I called Coach Roehl first, but also spoke with Coach Polasek and Coach Klieman," Lloyd explained. "Coach Roehl yelled in the phone for a good 10 seconds as he seemed to be very overjoyed. Coach Polasek said he was very excited and can't wait for me to get out there. He told me that I will succeed and have a great opportunity there. All the coaches mentioned how I will fit in right away. Coach Klieman said he was excited for me as well and mentioned a lot of the same things Coach Polasek said."
Lloyd's family had a huge impact on his decision to head to Fargo.
"My mom and dad both went there, so they're both extremely excited for me and this opportunity I'm given," Lloyd told the BisonReport.com. "My dad was a little concerned coming in my freshman season to an 8-man football team exposure wise and obviously it payed off, but I guess if you have talent, then they'll find you. Obviously it was beneficial to knowing the program much more and the history of it, but when it came down to the decision, what really made me want to go there was how right off the bay, I had a great relationship with all of the coaches, which takes months to build with others. Also having another Lloyd at NDSU is going to be very cool."
Bison fans don't have to worry as NDSU already feels like home.
"Well I am verbally committed to NDSU and other schools can offer, but I probably wouldn't even think about changing schools because I know NDSU is where I want to be," Lloyd said. "I feel extremely comfortable there and I have great relationships with the coaches already. It already feels like home. NDSU really likes me at tight end as they like my athleticism for how big I am and I still have a lot of room to grow. Once I get there, they will be able to put a lot more muscle and weight on me. They like my attitude on the field and they like if I screw up on a play, or get beat, how I respond to that and don't get down on myself. They also like my ball skills and I know what to do when the ball is in my hand because before my growth spurt I was a running back. I want Bison fans to know that I'll do my best to get some more championships!"
