NDSU safety signee Darren Kelley Jr. came to Fargo to play for championships every year

Baltimore (Md.) safety and new NDSU signee Darren Kelley Jr. is the latest Bison to sign in the 2016 class and he went in-depth with the BisonReport.com to share more about his reasons to sign with North Dakota State.

BisonReport.com: What is your current height and weight? What weight would the NDSU staff like you to report at this summer?

DK: I'm currently 6'1",191 lbs and they would like me at 195, but I'll be much bigger than that. 

BisonReport.com: What are your individual and team goals you hope to accomplish during your college career?

DK: Earn my starting spot and be all American my first year. Also, I want to get my business and nursing degree and drafted in my final year as a Bison.

BisonReport.com: What are you looking to work on the most this spring to prepare yourself for Missouri Valley football?

DK: Getting my body in tip top shape and improving my power and explosion.

BisonReport.com What future moment are you looking forward to the most as a Bison?

DK: Winning the 6th national championship and beating the odds of my vigorous journey and get drafted into the NFL.

BisonReport.com: What was the main reason you chose to attend North Dakota State University?

DK: The expectation of greatness, the great coaching staff and the Bison fans.

BisonReport.com: What team do you want to beat the most as a Bison and why?

DK: Iowa Hawkeyes. That proves that we are who we say we are.

BisonReport.com: Is there any unfinished academic business or are you all set to enroll at NDSU?

DK: I have to get my AA degree in May, then I'll be off to Bison country. 

BisonReport.com: If you don't make it to the NFL, where do you see yourself in 10 years?

DK: I see myself running a hospital and having my hand in several entrepreneurial projects.

BisonReport.com: What is it about Coach Klieman and the coaching staff that makes you want to play for them?

DK: They're genuine people and that's not hard to tell, plus there a great coaching staff collectively.

BisonReport.com: What is something you learned about North Dakota State University that surprised you during the recruiting process?

DK: How serious the Bison fans are. 

BisonReport.com: What position do you expect to play at NDSU? What other position did the Bison staff mention as a possibility?

DK: Strong safety and possibly some nickel back.

BisonReport.com: What have the coaches told you regarding how they plan to utilize your strengths as a player?

DK: They plan to use me as strong safety due to my physicality and a nickel back due to my man coverage skills. 

BisonReport.com: Have you had any communication with other NDSU recruits and if so what?

DK: No.

BisonReport.com: What player do you model your game after and why?

DK: A mix of Tyrann Mathieu and Cam Chancellor. Tyrann is a play-maker and impact player and Cam is a pure physical specimen and that's how I want to be as a player. I believe the Bison will bring those qualities out of me the best.
