2017 South Dakota running back Lincoln Gibbs decides to commit to play football for the North Dakota State Bison

2017 South Dakota running back Lincoln Gibbs decided to commit to play football for the North Dakota State Bison on Thursday and he talks about his decision with Scout.com.

"Coach Klieman is the one that offered me, but coach Roehl is the one who told me about it," South Dakota running back Lincoln Gibbs said to Scout.com. "They talked a lot about personality and work ethic. I would do anything for my team and my community and I think that the NDSU coaching staff knows that! They said that they like my body type and the think I could be played as a Chase Morlock type of back! I did an unofficial visit earlier this spring, plus I've been to NDSU games before of course. I've always loved the campus, the Bison fans, and the coaching staff so another visit wasn't really needed before committing."

Gibbs knew he wanted to act quickly on his North Dakota State offer.

"You know I figured it was always my dream to play at a program like NDSU and when I got the offer I thought, even if other schools talked to me, would I really want to go anywhere else?," Gibbs explained to the BisonReport. "Not only that, but it's only a two hour drive for my family to see me, the coaching staff is beyond amazing, I love the town of Fargo itself, and I truly believe that NDSU has the best fans in the whole nation. I've had nothing but love from them and I really appreciate that because it's nerve racking thinking about what the fans are going to say about a 9-man player from SD. I called coach Roehl, and he seemed very happy when I told him I wanted to commit! He said that I could do big things at NDSU if I just work my butt off every single day, and believe me I will be working my butt off. He is a great recruiting coach and I can't say enough good things about him!"

Gibbs had a special moment with his family after he hung up the phone with the NDSU coaching staff.

"Well I'm not afraid to say that we all cried, especially my dad," Gibbs said. "They both just want the very best for my brother (Harley) and I and that's what they're getting at NDSU. They've seen how hard I've worked for this over the years and I've always had their support. I wouldn't have this opportunity without them. My dad is a pilot and was over seas when I decided to commit so he's been flying around the world wearing his Bison hat and has been posting pictures of him wearing it in different countries on Instagram! The commitment does end my recruitment. I've already said my thank you's and goodbyes to other schools still trying to recruit me. This is a dream come true for me and I feel blessed everyday to wake up being a Bison!"
