Projected Class: With the dog days of August upon us, the BisonReport takes our best guess at NDSU's 2017 recruiting class on defense

With the Bison's fall football camp in full swing now, the BisonReport takes our best guess at what NDSU's 2017 recruiting class will look like on the defensive side of the ball.

Defensive Line

Projected signee:

http://www.scout.com/player/207572-spencer-waege?s=564

http://www.scout.com/player/207169-lane-tucker?s=564

Reasoning:

I could see NDSU pursuing a fifth defensive lineman, but none with commitable offers are out there at this time.

Farmington (Minn.) defensive lineman Tanner Sundt chose the Bison over other offers from Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, Northern Iowa, South Dakota, South Dakota State, Southern Illonis, SFA and Wyoming. Sundt has great length with that big frame. Wisconsin's DE/TE Logan McCormick chose NDSU in late June over Ball State, Western Michigan, Northern Iowa, South Dakota and South Dakota State. Watertown's Spencer Waege was the first commitment of the 2017 Bison class and he decided on NDSU over Buffalo, South Dakota State and Mary. Wyoming's Lane Tucker just gave his commitment to the Bison over his in-state school of Wyoming. Tucker will be a three technique defensive tackle at NDSU.

Linebacker

Already committed:

Projected signee:

http://www.scout.com/player/207812-noah-urbanek/recruiting?year=2016&s=564

Reasoning:

I believe North Dakota State ends up with at least two linebackers as they're graduating four, and Begley and Urbanek both have a good chance to apart of this 2017 class. Nebraska linebacker Jack Begley chose NDSU over Northern Iowa, South Dakota and South Dakota State among others. Another Nebraska linebacker that has the Bison on top, is Kearney's Noah Urbanek. The to be senior is working on finding another time to try and visit Fargo here soon.

Defensive Back

Already committed:

Projected signee:

http://www.scout.com/player/191899-jake-springer/recruiting?year=2016&s=564

Reasoning:

Lofton tweeted out earlier this month that he's going to making his college commitment in October with other top Bison target Deyon Campbell, and it appears North Dakota State is the front runner for both at this time. The question remains if the Bison will be full by then, or not. Springer visited NDSU in June, and the Bison would love to land a commitment from him by the end of the summer. Springer has a ton of other FCS offers.

Total number for 2017 on defense: 9
