"As of late, I've been in contact with Columbia, Illinois State, Toledo, Wyoming, Western Illinois, NDSU, and Southern Illinois," Illinois defensive back CJ Rutherford said to the BisonReport. "Most have just wanted to stay in touch and touch base with my recruiting. They also give me information about their school and also want to see me at camp and watch me compete."
"My NDSU offer was a huge surprise actually," Rutherford explained to Scout.com. "I had sent over some clips for the staff to review and take a look at, and then coach Klanderman had me call the next day with coach Klieman, and he gave me the news. It was definitely a blessing and the highlight of my weekend. They told me they liked my size and versatility, plus the fact that I can play both sides of the ball, so I think really stood out to them. I know that North Dakota State has a great championship tradition, great fan base, family oriented environment, great education. Fargo is definitely a great place to be. I'm still working on a date with my family but I'm definitely hoping to make it sometime before the season."
The Bison will be a major player for the Illinois defensive back.
"I have extremely high interest in North Dakota State as I think it'd be a perfect fit," Rutherford explained. "There's definitely something special about NDSU and it's an amazing opportunity. As far as camps, I was at the North Central Camp yesterday, I'll be at Northwestern on the 10th, and Elmhurst on the 13th. I still have to pick out a few more camps. I'd say that NDSU, Illinois State, Columbia and Wyoming are standing out to me right now."
