SMU Outlasts Mean Green 45-31

With 28 points scored in a 4th quarter that was a back and forth contest between dueling offenses, North Texas came up just short of winning their first game of the season. A snap that went over quarterback Daniel Meager's head with just under two minutes eventually led to a turnover on downs, ending North Texas' hopes of a comeback.

The Mustangs held a 31-17 lead heading into the fourth quarter after scoring on a 23-yard run as time expired in the third quarter.

Then turnovers and touchdowns came in rapid succession as the game progressed.

North Texas scored to close the gap at 31-24 with a nice pass by Meager who ended up with 3 touchdown passes. Then, after SMU returned the kickoff to their 38 yard line, Mustang quarterback Justin Willis threw a bad pass right into Mean Green linebacker Derek Mendoza's hands. North Texas, however was unable to do anything because on the very next play, Meager turned the ball back over to the Mustangs with an interception of his own.

After North Texas tied the game up at 31 on a 3-yard run by freshman Micah Mosley, Linebacker Craig Robertson came up with a fumble on UNT's 24-yard line with 7:28 left in the game. Two plays later Meager threw another interception that was returned for an interception that turned out to be the game winner.

SMU lead at halftime 17-14 after scoring a touchdown with no time on the clock as they capitalized on an off-sides penalty against the Mean Green on the previous play.
