Seton Academy Guard Taking Visit

Class of 2009 guard prospect Tony Nixon from south suburban Seton Academy is coming off a terrific July evaluation period with the Mac Irvin Fire AAU program. The 6-5 guard has a school visit lined up for Monday as he looks to close in on a college decision. Learn where Nixon is headed in this report…

Tony Nixon caught the attention of many college coaches on the AAU circuit this spring and summer. In May, the Seton Academy guard was named co-MVP of the Hensley Memorial tournament in Fort Wayne, Indiana, as he led the Fire to the championship.

Then came the Desert Duel tournament in Arizona last week where Nixon was again named co-MVP as the Fire added another championship trophy to their collection. In a semifinal win over the I-Can All-Stars from California, the 6-5 guard did the unimaginable. Tony was blistering hot from three point range as he shot 10 of 13 from behind the arc and totaled 33 points in the game. That feat had coaches from all over the country talking. NIU associate head coach Dennis Gates was among the coaches in the crowd on that day.

Back from Arizona, Nixon now has some time to rest up before classes begin again at Seton Academy. On Monday, the sharpshooter plans on taking an unofficial visit to the campus of Northern Illinois University in Dekalb. Huskies' head coach Ricardo Patton is looking to add a wing player of Nixon's stature to his 2009 recruiting class. Needless to say, Tony is a top priority for the NIU staff.

The visit won't be Nixon's first visit to the NIU campus. "I played there with my high school team in my junior year," Nixon said. "I like them a lot."

In addition to NIU, Nixon is receiving interest from Southern Illinois, Illinois State, Fresno State, and George Mason.

Nixon is looking forward to the start of his senior season at Seton, where he figures the Sting to be contenders for a Class 2A state title. Seton Academy is adding two transfers from Hales Franciscan in 5-10 point guard D. J. Cooper and 6-6 forward Jordan Walker. With Cooper and Nixon, Seton boasts one of the best backcourt duos in the state. "I think we'll win state this year," Nixon said.

Tony Nixon competed with his Seton teammates at the NIU Team Camp at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago in June. Be sure to read HuskiePride.com's report on the camp at the link below…
