Northern Illinois Football Injury Update 9/15

The NIU Huskies football team had a bye week to rest and prepare for Saturday's home opener vs. Indiana State. In this report, Huskies' coach Jerry Kill talks about the health of his team headed into Saturday's game.

Northern Illinois lost starting quarterback Chandler Harnish to a foot injury in the first quarter of the Western Michigan game. Harnish is now out indefinitely for Northern. "The big thing with Chandler is that he has a mid-foot sprain," said Kill. "It's something that is very painful. He will not play in this coming week."

With Harnish on the bench, the Huskies would be expected to turn to the senior leadership of Dan Nicholson, however, Nicholson is still dealing with soreness in the shoulder of his throwing arm following off-season surgery. "Dan's shoulder is still bothering him quite a bit," Kill shared. "We're just going to have to wait and see. We're hoping to know more on Tuesday. He hasn't practiced a whole lot in the last week. We've been working with Demarcus (Grady) and Ryan Morris at that spot right now. That's kind of where we are. We hope Dan will be ready to play, but we'll know more on Tuesday."

Other notes – senior wide receiver Britt Davis has returned to practice after missing the Western Michigan game.

Senior defensive end Larry English had surgery on his right thumb last week. English had broken his thumb in the season opener at Minnesota. English is expected to play for the Huskies.
