NIU Football 2009 Recruiting Class Shaping Up

With national signing day approaching on Wednesday, NIU Football coach Jerry Kill is out to make a kill-ing in the Class of 2009. Kill has lined up recruits stretching from Wisconsin to Florida for next season.

Kill has already lined up 20 known verbal commitments in the class according to HuskiePride.com and Scout.com. It is Kill's second recruiting class and the first following his initial season at the helm of the Huskies. Northern Illinois finished the season at 6-7, 5-3 in MAC play while earning a postseason berth in the Independence Bowl.

Among the junior college players already admitted to NIU this semester are cornerback Chris Smith from Highland, Kansas, defensive end Kyle Jenkins from Harper College in Palatine, Illinois, and punter Josh Wilber from Phoenix Junior College in Arizona.

The Huskies also have verbal commitments from a pair of Illinois' best quarterbacks in A.J. Hill from DuQuoin and from Jordan Lynch at Chicago Mt. Carmel. Both led their respective teams deep into the IHSA state playoffs this fall. Hill is ranked 133rd at his position by Scout.com while Lynch is 137th.

Among the higher rated recruits are offensive guard Matt Krempel from Columbus, Indiana and defensive tackle Zach Anderson from Ladysmith, Wisconsin. Krempel is ranked 100th at his position by Scout.com. Anderson is ranked 120th as a defensive tackle.
