NIU's Dennis Gates in Running for Nevada Job

Scout.com has learned that Northern Illinois associate head men's basketball coach Dennis Gates is a candidate for an assistant coach position at the University of Nevada-Reno.

Former assistant coach David Carter took over the reigns of the Nevada Wolfpack last month when head coach Mark Fox left for the University of Georgia.

Dennis Gates has been at Northern Illinois for two seasons and was promoted to associate head coach last year. Gates has recruited the Chicago area and the entire Midwest for the Huskies. Prior to arriving in DeKalb, Gates was an assistant coach at California under Ben Braun for two seasons.

Prior to his full-time coaching positions, Gates served as a graduate assistant for both Leonard Hamiliton and the 2004-05 Florida State Seminoles, as well as Tom Crean and the 2003-04 Marquette Golden Eagles.

The Wolfpack are coming off a 20-12 season where they lost to UTEP in the opening round of the CBI tournament.
