Rising Stars, Threloff Pull Off Huge Upset

With coaches from Northern Illinois watching, the Rising Stars Gold team from Illinois managed to upset the heavily favored All Ohio Red team in the 17U AAU Super Showcase tournament in Orlando. Jordan Threloff, a 6-10 class of 2010 NIU recruit from DeKalb, was one of the solid performers for Rising Stars Gold.

Rising Stars Gold advanced to the semifinals of the tournament where they lost to Each 1 Teach 1 in an overtime thriller today.

In last night's matchup with All Ohio Red, Rising Stars Gold prevailed 57-53 in a hard fought battle. Rising Stars Gold was led by California bound guard Alex Rossi, Ben Brust, who is head to Iowa, Ohio State commit Lenzelle Smith, Jr. and Threloff.

Jordan Threloff was matched up against 6-9, 255 lb. Ohio State commit Jared Sullinger, who is regarded as one of the top post prospects in the nation. While Sullinger managed to score 20 in the contest, he was clearly out of his rhythm.

Threloff is uncommitted. The 6-10 big man boasts offers from Northern Illinois and 11 other Division I schools.

All Ohio Red came into the tournament having lost only nine games the entire AAU season. They had captured the championship title of the Nike Peach Jam earlier this month and the Hensley Memorial tournament in May.
