Luke Eakes a 6-3, 225 lb. tight end/defensive end from St. Mary's, KS, was named to the Topeka Capitol-Journal All-State team as a defensive end for the Bears in class 2A in Kansas despite missing four games with a thumb injury as a senior.

"He's a good football player, there is no question," said St. Mary's High School coach Kevin Kinderknecht. "I think Northern Illinois got a good player."

One thing that appeals to Jerry Kill is Eakes' versatility and athleticism.

"He can play defensive end, or be H-back person that can be a fullback/tight end," said Kinderknecht. "The good thing about him is he can play a number of positions."

Eakes becomes the 12th player to commit to the Huskies in the class of 2010.

"He's a great kid and he works hard," added Kindernkecht.
