We HAVE come a long way - we may not 'expect victory' but for me (and yes, I realize that maybe we've been spoiled by our current postseason eligibility streak), I pretty much assume we'll hit the 6-win mark every season
That said, the fact of the matter is we'll NEVER have the talent and depth the Ohio States et. al of the world have - therefore, even if we're leading by a zillion points with 7 seconds left, unfortunately said fact will catch up with us more times than not
Another sign that the program is improving?
Let's not forget that Vandy was sick of losing to our Cats so they booted us off their schedule
- that's gotta be a first!
The scheduling of Notre Dame and Stanford shows confidence by the powers-that-be in our team
- otherwise, we'd follow Vandy's lead and face powerhouses like Idaho Community Tech Institute for the Blind

I think the negativity is at least as much a product of ignorance as it is of expectations. I read more negativity from posters on the "other site" and quite frankly, do not have a high level of respect for the football knowledge of many of them. Many of them seem to post more to create audiences for themselves and engage in witless banter with others who like an audience as well. I see less of that here. Generally, our program is improving from year to year; our team is improving from game to game. As an alum and a supporter of the program, I take great pride in our coaches and our players, not only for what they have done but how they do it.
I think that it is a part of the natural evolution of the program. We are no longer satisfied with only six wins. That is the baseline or the floor.
I feel we are more disappointed at this point because it doesn't seem like the lack of talent is the reason we are losing. There have been some major coaching errors this season and that has been frustrating. I think we can deal with the lack of talent and depth excuse. It just does not seem real at this point.
Is it too much to ask for this team to be sitting at 10-0 right now? Yeah, probably. But the opportunity was there. I think most of the negativity is just being tired of knocking on the door or getting over the hill and just not getting there. The Nebraska and Michigan games especially were chances to build the program's profile and were opportunities missed.
