NU Center Hangs 'em up

Purple Reign has learned that NU Senior Center Carl Matejka has decided to not play his Senior Season at Northwestern.

According to a source close to Matejka, he plans to graduate this summer and continue at NU graduate school, but not play for the Wildcats. He told the source that he had lost his desire to play football.

As of Friday Morning, Matejka's name was no longer on the Spring 2002 roster.

Matjeka at 6-4/315 lbs, was expected to replace Austin King as the starting Center, but also expected to be challenged for the starting role in August by one of 2 incoming freshmen, either Houston, TX North Shore's Trevor Rees [6-2 275] or Orange Park FL's Austin Matthews [6-5 275] in August.

He had played guard for most of his career at NU, but appeared to be the solid choice to play Center for the 'Cats in 2003.

We'll try to have more info for everyone Friday as we travel to Evanston to watch the Spring Drills.
