David Sobolewski: Benet Academy (Lisle, IL) SR. Point Guard, 6-1, 175 lbs.
Benet Academy (Lisle, IL) continued to roll, and that was thanks to Dave Sobolewski. Benet won the Proviso West Holiday Tournament, winning the title with a 54-50 overtime win against Homewood-Floosmoor.
In the tournament, Sobolewski scored 21 pts. in the first round, 18 pts. in the second round, 15 pts. in the semifinals, and 19 pts. in the championship game win, including had 19 points in the championship win. Sobolewski was given Proviso West Holiday Tournament MVP honors.
Benet Academy is now 14-0 on the season, and is ranked as one of the top teams in the state of Illinois.
Mike Turner: Univ. of Chicago Lab School, (Chicago, IL) SR. Power Forward, 6-8, 190 lbs.
Mike Turner's University of Chicago Laboratory School (Chicago, IL) competed in the Carbondale Holiday Tournament. His team did not fare so well. The Maroons finished 1-2 in the tournament. Turner struggled mightily in the first game, as he shot 3-15 from the field, for just six points.
Turner responded well after the first game, finished Game 2 with 21 pts. and seven rebounds, and scoring 16 pts. in the third game.
Turner and the Maroons will start conference play against Northshore Country Day High School in Winnetka.
Tre Demps: Reagan High School (San Antonio, TX) SR. Shooting Guard, 6-2, 190 lbs.
Reagan High School (San Antonio, TX) did not participate in a Holiday tournament, but three-star shooting guard Tre Demps and his Reagan Rattlers continued to roll, as they won their 17th game of the season. The Rattlers are now 17-3 after an 86-73 win on Wednesday.
Demps and the Rattlers will continue with conference play against Austin SFA High School on January 4th.
Steve Taylor: Chicago Simeon High School, (Chicago, IL) JR. Power Forward, 6'6, 200 lbs.
Chicago Simeon High School (Chicago, IL) continued to roll, as they easily won the Pontiac Holiday Tournament. Northwestern prospect Steve Taylor dropped a double-double of 13 pts. and 10 rebounds in the Simeon championship win.
Taylor and Simeon High School will begin conference play on Tuesday, as they take on Julian High School.
Kendall Stephens: St. Charles East High School (St. Charles, IL) SO. Shooting Guard, 6-3, 180 lbs.
Sophomore Kendall Stephens and the St. Charles East Saints (St. Charles, IL) spent their week in the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic, and had an eventful week. They finished off their time in the tournament with an 83-72 loss to Riverside-Brookfield High School.
In the loss, NU recruit Kendall Stephens finished the game with 12 pts. five rebounds, and three blocks. The game finished off an eventful week for Stephens, who received his second scholarship off from Wisconsin.
Stephens and the Saints will take on Geneva High School on January 7th.
