Mogus Working to Recruit for 'Cats

Geoff Mogus now bleeds purple. The three-star offensive line (St. Edward HS, Lakewood, OH) commit made his decision to attend Northwestern back in July, and is excited to get started in the fall. With signing day quickly approaching, Mogus is now working to recruit for the Wildcats.

Mogus (6,5, 280-lb) was in Evanston for an official visit this past weekend. It was his second visit to Northwestern's campus, and Mogus left feeling very excited.

"Oh my gosh, it was amazing," said Mogus. "I can't wait to come up and be a part of that."

The visit gave the future Wildcat a chance to meet his future teammates and coaches, and get an idea of how the program operates. In addition, Mogus got to spend some time with some of his future offensive line teammates.

"My host was Paul Jorgenson. He just gave me a tour of the dorms. We just went downtown and hung out a bit. I met some other o-lineman and they gave me info on the classes and what there is to do for fun. We walked around Evanston a little bit. I went to meetings with Coach Fitz and the coaches. I went over blocking techniques. And I met the training staff and strength and conditioning coach."

With his recruitment long completed, Mogus is working to recruit for Pat Fitzgerald and the Wildcats.

Mogus's high school teammate and friend Deonte Gibson is near making his commitment. The three-star defensive end has narrowed his decision to either Northwestern or Cincinnati.

Gibson was originally a Pittsburgh commit, but decommitted from Pitt when Dave Wannstedt was relieved of his duties as Panther head coach. With Gibson nearing back on the market, Mogus has become Gibson's top recruiter.

"I pretty much talk to him every single day," Mogus said. "He gets to see all the information. I just tell him that it's an obvious choice and a great fit for you. It's a great fit, Fitz is great, he has a lot of stability, and I think that's what he's looking for."

While Mogus speaks with Gibson every day, Mogus admits he still can't figure out which school his friend Gibson is leaning toward.

"I try a little bit, but he doesn't hint at anything," Gibson said of Mogus. "He's going to visit both schools, and make his decision after. I told him, make sure you get up there and see what it's all about. I told him you'll like it a lot, and I hope you make the right choice."

Deonte Gibson was supposed to travel to Evanston with Mogus, but he had a setback, which prevented him from making the trip. Gibson injured his knee in a pickup basketball game, and wasn't able to make the trip. Gibson is expected to travel to Evanston with his mother on January 21st, to make his visit to campus.

"He was on crutches, he told me he's definitely coming up on the 21st," Mogus said of Gibson. "His mom wasn't able to come down, so it will be better that his mom can come. He's going to Cincinnati first, so Northwestern can make their final impression on him."

Both St. Edward players will sign their letter of intent on National Signing Day on February 2nd. Mogus will sign his letter of intent for Northwestern. Will Gibson do the same?
